Pahalgam Terror Attack: Amit Shah Visits Baisaran Meadows, 26 Tourists Killed in One of the Deadliest Attacks in Jammu and Kashmir

In a heart-wrenching tragedy that has shocked the nation, at least 26 civilians, including two foreign tourists, lost their lives in a brutal terrorist attack at Baisaran meadows in the scenic Pahalgam region of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday afternoon, April 22, 2025.

The attack, one of the deadliest targeting civilians in recent years, left many others injured—several critically—raising fears that the death toll may climb further. The Resistance Front, a terror outfit linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba, has claimed responsibility for the massacre.

On Wednesday morning, Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited the Baisaran meadows, the very ground where the innocent were slaughtered, and met with local officials and grieving families. His visit came shortly after Prime Minister Narendra Modi, upon returning from Saudi Arabia, held an emergency security meeting at the Delhi airport with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to assess the situation and chart a response.

Government Responds with Compensation and Condemnation

The Jammu and Kashmir government swiftly announced an ex-gratia relief package, offering ₹10 lakh to the families of those killed, ₹2 lakh for the seriously injured, and ₹1 lakh for those with minor injuries.

Expressing his deep sorrow and outrage, J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah strongly condemned the massacre.

“This attack is far more devastating than anything we’ve seen directed at civilians in recent times,” said Abdullah. “The perpetrators are nothing short of monsters. They are inhuman and deserve the strongest condemnation.”Pahalgam terror attack

Nation Mourns as Victims’ Stories Emerge

Among the victims was an IAF officer from Arunachal Pradesh, whose bravery and service added a tragic weight to the list of those lost. Personal stories emerging from the tragedy have moved the nation—one grieving daughter recounted how terrorists cursed PM Modi and forced her father to recite an Islamic verse before killing him.
