• Security Operations Intensified: Indian security forces have launched a large-scale manhunt to apprehend the perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack. Over 100 individuals have been questioned, and sketches of suspects have been released. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is leading the probe and has identified Saifullah Kasuri, a senior Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander, as the mastermind behind the attack.
• Tourist Exodus: In the aftermath of the attack, many tourists have fled the region, fearing further violence. This mass departure is affecting local businesses and casting a shadow over the upcoming tourist season.
• International Reactions: The attack has drawn widespread condemnation from political leaders and civil society. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh labeled it an “act of cowardice,” while opposition leaders described it as a “crime against humanity.”

🏛️ Government Decisions and Diplomatic Measures
In response to the attack, the Indian government has taken several significant steps:
• Suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty: India has temporarily suspended the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan, effective immediately. This decision reflects India’s firm stance on the issue.
• Closure of the Attari–Wagah Border: The Attari–Wagah border has been closed, and all previously issued visas to Pakistani nationals under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme have been canceled. Additionally, Pakistani military advisers at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi have been expelled, and their Indian counterparts in Islamabad have been withdrawn. The staff strength of the Indian High Commission in Islamabad has also been reduced.
